Project: Mitra Technologies

In January 2019, Neil’s aunt passed away due to a heart attack. The first responders were unable to receive critical biomarker information in time to determine proper intervention. Neil’s loss motivated him to find a solution to the millions of deaths that take place each year due to the late biomarker access of heart attacks, especially among underserved communities. In June 2020, Neil launched Mitra Biotechnologies to democratize affordable healthcare for marginalized communities by revolutionizing point of care systems, as well as the way in which modern lab tests are performed. Backed by research carried out at the University of Waterloo, Mitra Biotechnologies has developed novel rapid point-of-care diagnostic and prediction tests for disease conditions. In March 2022, one of Canada’s top nanobiotechnology researchers Dr. Juewen Liu wrote a letter of support for the science and detection principles behind their innovations. Neil has recently received interest from a publicly-traded diagnostic company to scale the device among cardiovascular disease patients. By the end of 2022, Mitra Technologies will achieve their pre-seed round of financing, partner with hospitals and begin patient testing. From there, they can deploy their product to reduce the number of deaths that occur due to cardiovascular disease. Neil envisions a world where any disease can be predicted and detected within minutes, and anyone can receive affordable, and reliable healthcare, regardless of their background
