She/Her
Project: Dream Equal

Shreya was one of two girls in her eighth-grade class who opted to pursue the highest-level course of mathematics. Shocked by the gender disparity, she was inspired to encourage other girls to pursue STEM opportunities. In November 2019, Shreya joined the leadership team of Dream Equal – a global nonprofit organization working towards a world in which all people are empowered to realize their full potential, regardless of gender. Their three core pillars of empowerment, advocacy, and education guide their work to empower girls in STEM and encourage them to pursue an education centered around their interests. Dream Equal leads workshops, hosts fundraisers, and supports local chapters in which girls can explore their specific interests and carry out STEM-based projects. Since joining as the first international leader, Shreya expanded the organization from one chapter in Lincoln, Nebraska to 39 chapters in 18 countries, and has helped directly impact 750+ people. In her current role as South and Southeast Asia Regional Leader, she oversees 11 engaged chapters across the region. Dream Equal goes beyond working solely with students to achieve gender equity by hosting a virtual workshop for parents across the United States about eradicating gender stereotypes. They plan to continue creating programs to educate families and educators about gender equity and inclusion. Currently based in Mumbai, Shreya hopes to register Dream Equal in India so she can expand programming on the ground.
