John has created or co-created many successful companies - Syzygy went public in Germany; Overture went public in the USA; Obongo and Seattle Coffee Company were acquired by US public companies AOL Time Warner and Starbucks, respectively; First Tuesday was acquired privately by Yazam; and Amanyara, a resort in the Caribbean, and Oriel, a global wine brand, are still privately owned. John was also a founding investor in many other successful ventures including Betfair and Carluccio's.

His latest venture, Archimedia, is a 'creative capital' fund which takes significant or controlling stakes in companies which it can help to grow. Archimedia is the controlling shareholder in Wally yachts and other innovative companies.

John is an elected fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He supports numerous charities in arts and education including the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Irish Arts Centre, SFMoma and Slide Ranch in the US, and ArtAngel in Europe. John earned a degree in Economics at London University, and has also worked for Procter & Gamble (then Kraft Jacobs Suchard) in the Middle East and Africa.
