Project: The HE[ART]LAND Fellowship

The HE[ART]LAND Fellowship stands as Heartland Arts KC’s central program, annually selecting six local performing artists — ranging from actors, comedians, musicians and dancers — via an online audition process. These fellows convene weekly for 12 weeks, delving into Kansas City's pertinent policy issues. Under guided mentorship, they engage in a creative journey, culminating in an original interdisciplinary performance. This unique showcase blends their insights with entertainment to engage and educate our audiences.

Policy change is the manifestation of social change. By centering policy education in our art practice, we’re training our audiences to think with the final goal [in] mind and work backwards so they can place themselves in the grand narrative of democratic participation.
