Project: Musuviwa Productions’ “Madawa” Film
Pronouns: He/Him

Musuviwa Productions’ “Madawa” follows a young man with a predisposition to addiction who tries MDMA for the first time in an attempt to impress a girl he likes. This film delves into the complexities of love and our often unhealthy pursuits for it, underscoring the importance of platonic relationships and a balanced self-identity. Additionally, the film challenges prevalent portrayals of addiction, particularly within Black communities, shifting away from isolating depictions to ones that foster empathy. As part of a broader filmmaking endeavor, Madawa contributes to exploring the experiences of Black individuals in society. It highlights their internal and external conflicts resulting from navigating an inherently unjust societal framework.

I try to examine the realities of inequity that I would like to change as well as imagine the futures that I hope to work towards in my films.
