In Nepal, Saumya watched local communities bear the heaviest consequences of environmental degradation while holding almost no say in the decisions behind it — a pattern rooted in power systems where these communities were often ignored or consulted only after decisions were made. Saumya founded the Center for Economic, Social and Climate Advancement (CESCA) to give young people, women, and marginalized communities the knowledge and tools to advocate for climate justice and inclusive governance. Through community education, legal advocacy, and cross-sector partnerships, CESCA strengthens local capacity to protect natural resources and hold institutions accountable. The organization has trained 1,500+ youth and community members in conservation education and advocacy, prevented 30+ illegal mining operations, and convened a government dialogue that moved four municipalities toward more equitable climate policies. In January 2026, Saumya established the Climate Women's Champion Group, chaired by the mayor, to ensure women’s lasting leadership in climate governance.
