Project: The Medical Bridge Project, Retinopic
Basic Human Needs: Education, Health

As a child, Kasyap’s family frequently traveled to India where his parents grew up. Kasyap saw firsthand India’s shortage of doctors and heard stories of misdiagnosis and improper treatment. At age 14, Kasyap and his friend Ritvik created a digital platform to connect health professionals with assistance from artificial intelligence (AI). This led Kasyap to found the Medical Bridge Project – an initiative to strengthen and globalize the collaboration between doctors and AI to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare. The Medical Bridge Project partners with medical schools and hospitals worldwide to implement their curriculum on using AI to improve care. They have educated doctors in nine countries and built partnerships with Microsoft Healthcare Intelligence, Microsoft 4Afrika and ASU+Mayo Clinic. The Medical Bridge Project is currently organizing educational events across the world and amplify fundraising efforts to supply technology to under-funded hospitals. Kasyap also developed Retinopic, an AIpowered mobile app that uses a retinal image to test for diabetic retinopathy and cardiovascular risk. Retinopic is cheaper and faster than any existing test, and has the potential to greatly reduce fatality from cardiovascular disease, which is one of the leading causes of death in the world. In 2019, Kasyap was invited to present Retinopic at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in Phoenix, Arizona, where he won Grand Award in his category. Kasyap envisions a world where doctors work confidently with emerging technology to improve their workflow and healthcare, especially in developing communities.
