Project: MANIFOLD
Focus Area: LGBTQ Rights/Access, Racial Inequity
Adia strives to forefront underrepresented stories in their work by exploring relationships — with ourselves, our community, and the obstacles that influence how we navigate the world. They explore this through a Black queer womanist lens using various genres and mediums of storytelling. In 2017, Adia’s short single-take film ‘Down The Rabbit Hole’ was a finalist in the Sarasota Single Take Competition and screened in Chicago’s (In)Justice For All Film Festival (2018). Since finishing undergrad in 2019, they have Assistant Directed on local Chicago productions such as ‘The Silence of Clarity’ and ‘Chrysalis.’ As an intern at Kartemquin, Adia learned how to create impactful media through filmmaking workshops while developing the ongoing docuseries project ‘MANIFOLD’, which continues to be a joyous creative space to hone her filmmaking craft with other incredible Chicago artists and organizers.
