Project: Tech Cadets

As a STEM enthusiast, Rahmatu believed accessible solutions could help her community adapt to the recurring consequences they faced due to climate change. In 2022, she founded Tech Cadets to empower Nigerian youth to build creative, low-cost solutions and reduce reliance on non-renewable energy. Tech Cadets provides hands-on STEM education, equipping teens to design and distribute practical climate solutions like solar chargers and water purifiers. They've distributed eco-friendly water purifiers to three communities in Kaduna State, providing a sustainable solution that fosters self-sufficiency. Rahmatu will soon establish community-based upcycling systems and train residents to maintain them to create green job opportunities. She plans to scale this model across Nigeria for long-term clean water access and reduced waterborne diseases, and evolve Tech Cadets into an innovation company that employs youth to create affordable and sustainable solutions in vulnerable communities.
