Start:Empowerment is a youth and BIPOC-led non-profit advancing environmental justice through art, education, and community organizing across Turtle Island. They’ve partnered with 15 schools and frontline communities, integrating justice-centric lessons and traditional ecological knowledge and art into classrooms. Their community-based art workshops serve as spaces for expression and healing, empowering participants to reclaim their stories through zines, murals, and other creative mediums. From their summer freedom school to halting the construction of an oil-export-terminal on Kawankawa land, stopping the Brooklyn Pipeline, and tackling food insecurity, all their work centers BIPOC voices and creativity, amplifying our stories, culture, and wisdom
